My students need a light table and manipulatives to support their learning across the curriculum. The light table will spark imagination and creativity in young children.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a Pre-Kindergarten teacher in an inner-city public school district. My students are 4 and 5 years old. Most of the students come from single-parent homes. Unfortunately, many of the parents are unemployed, incarcerated or deceased. Many are being raised by grandparents or other relatives.
My Preschool students are eager to learn, but most don't have access to high quality, engaging learning materials.
They need learning materials that will build upon the basic concepts that they have learned at home and that will challenge their thinking and creativity.
My Project
I would like to "Light It Up in Pre-K" by adding a Tabletop Light Panel to my classroom. The light panel would allow me to provide open-ended, child-initiated explorations. It is calming and invites sensory exploration as well as a place for observation, exploration of pattern, shape, and color.
The Tabletop Light Panel is an excellent resource for all areas of learning in Pre-K: Science & Discovery, Mathematics, Literacy, Writing, Music and Technology.
Using a light panel would create an inviting learning space which encourages young children to use their imagination, creativity and exploration skills. It is portable, doesn't take up a lot of space and can be easily stored. The Tabletop Light Easel provides an alternative space for my young students to explore color and light. This exploration is the foundation for scientific study and helps build vocabulary.
The Tabetop Light Panel and the Tabletop Light Easel would be excellent additions to my Pre-K classroom to increase STEAM learning in young children. They are perfect for promoting high-level thinking and scientific inquiry.
