Every year I meet my students I say, “This is the best class ever!” I have not met my students yet for this upcoming year, however like all fifth graders they will be curious, hard working, and energetic. I am excited to ignite the love of reading in each and every one of them! The demographics at my school varies, but one thing remains the same: students love to choose where they like to sit! It is my hope that this project will help my students to feel comfortable and almost like they are at home while learning.
My Project
Right now, most of my fifth graders sit on chairs all day and do not get the opportunity to sit where or how they would like. I have some flexible seating, but would love to add to my collection. Students need to move and be actively engaged in order to effectively learn. With flexible seating, they will have the choice to find the place they learn best. Some kids need to stand, some need to sit on a beanbag chair, pillow etc.
To top it off, I am asking for floor lamps and table lamps so I do not have to use my overhead fluorescent lighting.
Students complain the lights overhead give them headaches and are harsh on their eyes. The more natural lighting will help them immensely and allow them to focus on the task at hand, rather than the lights overhead.
