Help me give my students the ability to recognize survival and safety signs within their community with Safety Signs Flash Cards and Survival Sign Bingo.
Our school is located in a very rural area and consists of about 560 students K-12. We are in the north central part of Pennsylvania. The students in my classroom are there to learn the fundamentals of "getting ready for life." Thus, we learn the basics of cooking, cleaning, finances, employment, math, reading, post-secondary graduation goals, and becoming adults. The class serves students who vary from learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, ADHD, autism, EBD, cerebral palsy, and specific learning disabilities. I want to help them get everything they need for a thorough learning experience with every lesson!
My Project
I want to teach my students the meaning of safety signs within their school and community. Students will also be able to recognize the signs within our school. For instance, students will be able to recognize where the bathroom is (both in the school and public environment), recognizing if there's danger, traffic, and other pertinent warnings. For the students who are non-readers, these survival safety tools will be especially helpful in teaching them how to navigate in their communities! These signs are important to keep us safe. Students who have difficulty reading can rely on visuals to keep them safe.
I am interested in receiving a set of flash cards of indoor safety signs, and a set of safety signs found outside.
Once I have taught students what the signs are and their meanings, they can keep up their knowledge using the bingo game for both indoor and outdoor safety signs.
