This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are inquisitive 7th graders at a Title 1 campus and many of them don’t have access to books outside of school. I would love for them to make real life connections with books in the classroom.
Most of my students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds and have to deal with so many things outside of school.
Also, my students are at different reading levels, so they need more book options at all levels and interests to get them reading.
My Project
With students being able to choose their own books, I hope they will begin recommending books to me! This will help keep the classroom library updated for each group in years to come.
Receiving books to create a diverse classroom will help my students take the first steps to become lifelong readers.
I want my students to want to read. If there is a variety of books in the classroom, I hope they will be willing to take the first step to becoming lifelong readers.
I also want them to make real life connections with their reading. Making connections can also help them to become more frequent readers or even encourage others to read. They will also get to write about their reading and have meaningful discussions throughout the year.
