My students come to school everyday with different needs. Some come to school ready to work hard, and others are overwhelmed by simple classroom tasks. Many of my students struggle with reading on grade level.
Reading is the window to the world.
Therefore, it is important that all of my students regardless of reading level or language proficiency have access to different types of texts. As I work to encourage of love of reading and lifelong learning, having books that are current, popular, and on a variety of topics will allow me to better reach my students.
As a Literacy teacher, I strive to encourage my students to love to read. Many of my 5th grade students struggle with reading and come to me multiple grade levels behind. When students struggle, they tend to not enjoy reading. The best way for these students to increase their reading ability is to read more often. One way I try to encourage students to read is by offering them a variety of books.
Reading will allow students access to experiences that they may never get otherwise.
Between building vocabulary, introducing historical events, and explaining different cultures, reading brings the world to students. These books will be used to add a greater variety of popular books to my library and small group reading lessons.
