We teach physical education at a Title I school in a fully inclusive environment. All of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. A lot of our students also participate consistently in our after school sports program. The purpose of our physical education classes and after school program is to help motivate our students to practice and continue a healthy lifestyle.
With students away from campus right now due to COVID-19, our PE department wants to fund basic equipment for students to be able to take home and still be engaged in physical activity.
Our hope is to stay connected with our students and offer fitness videos that they can do on their own, showing them they can still be active on their own. This will help teach our students how to maintain their fitness goals and start to understand the importance of lifelong fitness.
We also have many English language learners at our site. In order to continually support our English language learners across content areas, we continually implement various strategies in P.E. to help support their language development. We want to help support all our students in all areas of their life.
My Project
This project will fund jump ropes and resistance bands that will allow our students to stay physically active while away from school.
They can learn how to use equipment for engaging in fitness exercises and begin to develop skills needed to carry on throughout their adulthood.
With the uncertainty of how long students will be away from school, students can pick up equipment and take it home. PE teachers will be posting fitness workouts that will use jump ropes, resistance bands, and other suggested household materials to virtually interact with students and teach students you do not need a fancy gym membership to stay fit and have fun doing it!
