This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
A big challenge facing our students today is getting along with others. Some students only see positive interaction among peers in the school setting.
I have 19 five and six year old students in my class with a large population of Hispanics.
This is just the third day of class, but it is an active little group of kids that will be working on community building (living and working together). The majority of the students at my school are at the poverty level qualifying for free/reduce meals.
My Project
Through the use of the dress-up clothes and baby dolls they will have the opportunity to explore dramatic play in a more "life-like" situation. In addition, we have created dramas in the past in which the dress up clothes would be beneficial for costuming.
Currently I do not have any baby dolls in my classroom.
I think they are beneficial for the students to be able to roll model nurturing skills. I have asked for multi-cultural dolls because our school is very diverse.
