My students represent a diverse group of middle school students with Autism. They are all inquisitive and engaging learners, who require different methods of teaching to fully understand the material. They require hands-on learning, with lots of positive reinforcement.
Our main focus is on life skills and independence.
We practice hygiene, cooking, and cleaning activities daily, as well as spend time in developing our fine and gross motor skills using specific OT and PT training.
I love that every day is different with my students, and there’s always a new way of growing!
My Project
By providing a more comfortable library experience, the students will be drawn to the space more and engage further with the literary materials. I have included new books on themes they love, as well, in order to pique their interest. I also have books on the life skills, trips, and activities we will be learning about this year.
Having this brand new library will encourage literacy development and functional skills.
In addition to the literary aspect of the library, the different chairs and rug will provide unique cleaning spaces to learn different life skills. We are focused on life skills and independence, and this space will provide a consistent place to practice vacuuming, dusting, and spot cleaning.
