I am a fifth-grade teacher in a small, rural area in Idaho. We are located by a reservation. We celebrate and welcome a wide range of Native American and Hispanic students. One hundred percent of our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. We are fortunate to have military families, with a local National Guard Unit in our area and an Air Force Base close by. We strive to support and take care of our military families.
Every one of my students has a great desire to learn, explore, and expand their knowledge to their greatest potential.
My students are eager to learn and try new things. I strive to supply each one of my students with the materials needed for a successful educational experience.
My Project
Financial Literacy is an essential lesson for every student. My students will have the opportunity to earn, save, spend and balance budgets with pretend money and a classroom store. Items of all sizes and values such as slime, stress balls, jumbo squishies and books will be available in the classroom store.

Students will earn money based on academic improvement and positive behavior. They will learn to save, spend, balance a checkbook, set goals and shop with their earnings. Students will also have an added incentive with the Giant Kerplunk. Each time they reach their financial goal, they will have an opportunity to pull a stick. The balls inside will be labeled with added earnings or financial burdens in which the student must pay back some of their earnings.
My fifth graders will be earning their play money with their academics, study skills, citizenship, responsibility and life skills. They will be demonstrating these in the classroom and on the playground. They will be well educated and practiced.
