Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Learning about plants, animals, life cycles, the food chain, the solar system, and biomes around the world is a favorite study of children in grades 1-3. This project is designed to supplement the study of the Life sciences in our classroom.
This school, a new public charter Montessori School is bringing a quality Montessori education to this economically and culturally diverse community.
As a public charter without the benefit of private school funding sources, this school is striving to provide an excellent education to its students.
My class is a fantastic, culturally diverse group of eager, innovative 1st through 3 grade children with a huge range of learning needs, learning styles, learning strengths and abilities, all of whom love to learn. These students thrive in the presence of visual resources and hands-on materials. Several of my students are English Language Learners. All of my students are passionate about plants and animals and all things science.
My Project
With these materials my students will be able to explore and begin to understand the interconnectedness of our world-of animals in their habitats in biomes around the world. They will be able to research and create projects around various life cycles of different animals and plants and learn about the food chains that exist in the world's biomes.
Using the light panel my students will be able to examine plants and other materials more closely, always seeking for distinctions and details. With the Flip for Science books and the Hands-on Standards books, I will be able to make sure that my students are experiencing and learning about all of the state standards that are appropriate for their grade level.
The Life Sciences are of particular interest to 1st through 3rd grade children.
Through Life Sciences we can reach every child of this age group and connect them to their own intrinsic passion about the world. When a child gets to watch first hand, plants growing in their presence and examine the subtle differences in the edges around leaves, the become interested and passionate about the world around them-they become possibilities for positive change in our world.
