Great leaps start with small steps. My students come from a rural community of high poverty. They have many disadvantages that directly impact their learning and growth, such as unstable home lives that are the result of illegal drug use or uneducated choices. My major goal is to provide this vulnerable population a vision to overcome obstacles to their future success. I strive to make these visions come to life in our science curriculum. Even though our population is so fragile they have proven themselves to be motivated to learn and lead, as they have helped our school to achieve Lighthouse status in the Leader in Me Schools. I would like to give them every means to continue to achieve great things in my science class and in life.
My Project
The Life Preservation materials will support my science students' inquiry learning. Students will become confident in identifying native trees , seeds and dig in to discover fossil evidence of yester year animals to make connections from the past to the present. They will work stations that have a host of engaging activities to inspire and promote fun and exciting learning. Students will be exposed to a variety of concepts of science, their work areas include a huge tree they are inside of, an ocean area with s 15 foot blue whale mural on the wall and a excavation site for digging up fossils and relics, in addition to many others. This curriculum would be good without the requested materials, but great with them.
