Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students go to a school that is low-income/high-poverty. They eat breakfast, lunch, and often dinner at school. Although they love art, art instruction is a rarity at school.
95% of the students in my class are English learners.
They love to read, write and create works of are, but they attend a school with very limited resources.
The students have often gotten to my class without ever have participating in any kind of formalized art lessons. The school's needs are so great in other subjects that art in completely overlooked.
My Project
The paint brushes, canvases and paints (primary red, yellow, and blue, black and white) will allow my students to learn about using primary colors (and black and white) to mix paints to make any color they can imagine to paint. They will use their brushes and canvases to create works of art inspired by the artwork of Chuck Close, Andy Warhol, Claude Monet, and Vincent van Gogh. They will be painting a self portrait in the photo-realism style of Chuck Close. They will paint a "Pop Art" image nine separate times in the style of Andy Warhol. They will create a dream-like landscape, recalling the style of Claude Monet. And, they will recreate van Gogh's "Starry Night" with colors only a child could imagine.
