Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In my mathematics classroom we learn math in the context of living in the reality of our lives and community. It is exciting, challenging, and very rewarding to teach middle school to my students. They are passionate advocates for themselves and immensely challenged by the circumstances they face. Many are new immigrants, English language learners and from low income families and neighborhoods. Often they come in believing that Math is not relevant to their life. Some of them have harsh realities and challenges just surviving, let alone thriving.
They inspire me to be my best and to raise my capacities to inspire them to work hard and learn that they can master learning, master math, and thrive in this world with consistent focused work.
I am not satisfied with the status quo and that is what I work to inspire in them. The rewards of making a difference with these students really hit home and leave me moved and inspired. I find myself often crying when I am really being with them.
My Project
Masterful teachers hone their craft through study and life long learning with other committed professionals. Students aged twelve through fifteen have always been an extremely challenging and rewarding class of students to teach. Everything is evolving so fast what used to work and be considered cutting edge no longer is.
Invest in in my ongoing growth and development to be an inspiring teacher to my cherished students.
I promise that I will get every ounce of benefit from this opportunity and bring it back to make an even deeper impact in my students being full of joy, grit and perseverance in preparing themselves for the future that is rushing towards them.
We will explore ways to have the students be self-regulating and self-starters guiding their own learning.
