I need to attend Ron Clark Academy to observe master educators teach classes and take part in professional development workshops to improve literacy, student engagement, and school culture.
When you walk into my classroom you better be ready for high energy, and enthusiasm. Each day, each class period, I teach in a way that allows students to create, innovate, communicate, and collaborate through inquiry-based projects, and cooperative learning. In my classroom, we build cooperative relationships and nurture responsibility, kindness, and good judgment. My fifth graders are witty and ready to explore each and every day!
I provide each student with the opportunity to excel based on his or her interests, all while incorporating leadership roles and a sense of community through implementation of the practices, I have read, from The Essential 55.
Even at 100% free and reduced-price lunch rates, we have been ranked first in our conference for student achievement.
We are proud of where we live and how we have grown to overcome many challenges. Low-income does not equal low expectations for our students! As a Title 1 school, high literacy rates are the main goal of our curriculum, which is something Ron Clark Academy will help to achieve.
My Project
Traveling to Ron Clark Academy has been a dream of mine for some time, and now as an experienced educator, I feel that it is just what I need to rejuvenate my love of teaching and bring fresh ideas back for myself and my team/coworkers. If I am blessed to attend Ron Clark Academy, I will be able to observe master educators teach classes, take part in professional development workshops, and experience school culture, rigor, and student engagement that can be applied to any subject and grade level. I want to be inspired through the hands-on, interactive professional development that is Ron Clark Academy.
School culture, student engagement, inclusive teaching, peer-to-peer learning, and varied, fresh teaching strategies are truly the things that matter most to me!
All students can and will learn, and Ron Clark Academy will give me the tools to make sure this vision is achieved. Students learn best when they work together and teach each other, and Ron Clark's master teachers will be modeling this. Student engagement (fun and excitement!) is key to student performance, and is probably what I am looking forward to seeing the most! Lastly, improving school culture is something that we have made a goal for our building, so I would love to be able to bring back ideas for this as well, after seeing it in action at the academy. I will share all of this knowledge and the many experiences I take part in with all of my colleagues, so we may all benefit from this project. Knowledge is power, and Ron Clark Academy's teacher training will give me just what I need to become a more effective educator for the benefit of my students.
