My Students
The students are served in an Elementary Behavior Support classroom due to their unique strengths and needs surrounding their social/emotional learning and responses.
My students are resilient in their efforts to meet their personal behavioral goals while also meeting the demands of the Common Core curriculum. I would love to be able to provide them with at least one daily read aloud that is relevant to both their social/emotional and academic needs.
Fictional characters and colorful illustrations always teach specific inter-relationship skills and important life lessons more efficiently than adult lectures. Utilizing applicable literature is a wonderful way for elementary behavior support classrooms to enjoy diving deep into their social/emotional curriculum.
My Project
I am seeking specific fictional books targeting social, emotional, and behavioral skills for students in grades kindergarten, first, and second grade. The students in my classroom require specialized instruction and individualized behavior support. This means that each of my students also struggle with appropriately reading social situations and demonstrating emotional responses.
It is imperative that social/emotional learning be properly embedded into elementary literacy curriculum through Read Alouds and creative teacher-led discussions.
The materials through this project will be extremely helpful in building our social/emotional classroom library, which will have direct impact on student learning, understanding social cues, and regulating behaviors.
