Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in Victoria, Texas. Victoria was hit by Hurricane Harvey in September of 2017. Our school had significant damage and renovations have recently been completed on our campus. In the year since the hurricane, our teachers have come together to make our school a family.
Our students have risen above the challenges of a city in clean-up mode as many of their homes are still, over a year out, are in need of repairs.
They are dedicated to learning.
We are a diverse campus with passionate teachers that serve students who are economically disadvantaged and at-risk. Many of our students have special needs, and they are all twenty-first century learners. We are a Title I school where most of our students receive free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch.
My Project
I have one wooden puzzle in my room, and my students race to work on it during work places. I have seen them grow in their communication skills while solving this puzzle, and I want to provide them with a variety of puzzles so that everyone can experience success.
So many of my students have never put a puzzle together before they are in my room, and they light up at the challenge.
These puzzles will be loved by all students in my room. I have noticed that when my students work on the puzzle we have, it levels the playing field. My highest students and my learners that struggle the most work cooperatively to meet the same goal.
