Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 17 kindergarten children in a high-poverty area of New Mexico. Our school is Title I, and our student population receives 100% free breakfast and lunch. Many of my students are English Language Learners. Our school focuses on collaboration and learning amongst the students by using Kagan structures. My students are bright and love to learn new things that will keep them engaged in their learning. They are excited to work with new tools to help them explore through hands on experiences and through play. I'm excited to help them grow to their fullest!
My Project
My young students will get to study real butterflies and ants that will grow and live in our classroom for a while. Students will have the opportunity to observe, make connections to the texts we will be reading and ask and answer their questions.
We are scientists, and we love to learn through hands on practice, observation and play.
Your donation will put authentic insect specimens into the hands of my kindergarten scientists as they study identifying characteristics of insects, understand that organisms have life cycles, and learn about the important role insects play in our ecosystem. My students will be choosing an animal at the end of the year to study and present and these insects will help get us more engaged in the project.
