Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are culturally and linguistically diverse and are socioeconomically diverse but predominantly Title I. Our neighborhood is an older Downtown community that is vibrant and active and very community oriented. Culture and traditions play a big role in who we are as a school and learning community. My students participate in school community programs like our Homework Diner, Fall Festival and Bellas Artes Festival.
My very young students love to explore and make discoveries in their sensory world.
They are curious and inquiring when they are on field trips to museums and cultural landmarks.
Students and teachers alike are embracing new and bigger and bolder ways to bring more movement and exploration to their learning day. Play is a very important part of their day. All the students created State Fair exhibits for our Western Days At the Fair.
What makes these students special is their zest for discovering and learning something new everyday. Show and Tell is tantamount to a major presentation! The items brought in foster high interest and wonder. Using all their five senses captures their imagination.
My Project
The economy sensory bin will hold pasta, sand, water, dry corn, and other fun textures and materials. Students will be able to use scoops to create, explore, and discover new sensory experiences. Students will have autonomy to use their senses to manage their experience with the sensory bin. Students can build with sand, experiment with water, and measure and fill with pasta and birdseed and other fun sensory materials.
A sensory bin will encourage exploration and facilitate the use of the scientific processes while they engage in play and discovery using their senses and imagination.
Students are able to experiment, investigate and create within the sensory landscape. The sensory bin materials can be changed for a totally new and novel experience every time. Students can also connect through sensory play.
