I am excited to present this student-led project, written by Shanay. Last week, I introduced the idea of student-led projects to my classes and on Monday morning, Shanay presented me with her proposal.
Last week, we received materials from a Donors Choose grant that included photographic backdrops, lighting and a couple of cameras. These materials will be used for an upcoming unit on photography. On Friday, I suggested to my classes that they could write their own project proposals and Shanay took it to heart. On Monday morning, she handed me her essays.
This project will allow my students to engage in the entire photographic design process, including conceptualization, composition, lighting, editing, processing and printing. Through this process, students will key elements of project management while developing the ability to analyze and critique their work. Finally, students will collaborate on their work-products, reinforcing effective communication and constructive criticism.
In Their Own Words
We need a color photo printer because it will let us print the photographs that we are making in technology class. It will make a difference because we can share our photos with our classes and our families.
I will work with Mr. Gianniny to learn how to use the printer and then I can help teach my classmates. I will care for it by putting it in a safe place and turning it off when we are not using it.
This project is important because we can print beautiful pictures to share with our classes and our families. We can be proud of our work and learn how to use new technology together.
