I have been a teacher of special needs students at P.S. 42 Q for five years. I love teaching. This year is especially exciting for me as most of my eleven students this year were with me last year for Kindergarten. They are amazingly curious and enjoy interactive learning. Children of low-income families don't live with the advantage of having a home computer. Therefore the school/classroom is their only access to advanced technology. I would love for my students to be able to have a new personal computer at their disposal, along with a color printer, scanner and copier. With these tools, my students could give life to an exciting project in which they can explore the life cycles of plants and animals. They would be able to produce information, which can be gathered on trips through our own neighborhood, to the zoo and botanical gardens. The color printer would make their imaginations come alive in print. To enhance their efforts even further, adding to the excitement, the Print Shop computer program would be a wonderful compliment to this computer/printer duo. My students would be able to produce their own books and show the same quality work as they see from their counterparts in General Education classrooms. I am hopeful that this project can come alive through the generosity of a donor choosing our class project. From there my students will soar to great new heights tackling more projects and will feel a great sense of pride and accomplishment far beyond a book made with construction paper and crayons.
