Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 7th grade students are bright and curious young citizens. They want to know more about the world around them, and how their history education impacts the world today. They want to research the past and find out how it is connected to the present day, in hopes that they can use this knowledge to create a better future.
Many of my students come from families that struggle to make ends meet, with over 80% qualify for free reduced lunch.
They are struggling to thrive in a school system that requires a connection to modern technology. Our school system has a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) policy, but most of our families can not afford to supply their children with a laptop or device that lets them access such school programs as Google Classroom, Powerschool, etc.
My Project
Technology is becoming ever critical to student success, showing several benefits. With its popular demand, students are able to access this. However, with the population that I teach, students struggle to obtain those opportunities, and therefore, their education is becoming a struggle.
My classroom needs another chromebook and licenses in order for my students to continue to use the computers for educational means in the classroom.
Primary sources are the foundation of history learning, and many websites offer students the chance to interact with these direct links to our past. This allows our class to use technology as a way to create more connections and learning through interaction with primary sources and station work that personalizes learning for each of my students. The licenses allow the students to connect to our school network safely and easier.
