This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." Benjamin Franklin A quote we strive to live by in our classroom. When we are actively taking part in something, it becomes personal and meaningful; it's more likely to stay with us.

My students are polite, creative, intelligent, and have a strong capacity to learn.

They love to discover new things and share them with everyone. They come to school with smiles on their faces, ready to take on the day! Our school may be small, but we have a BIG desire to learn!

My Project

This is our first year learning with a new literacy program in a Bilingual classroom and we are in desperate need of Spanish and bilingual books to use with our reading and writing lessons and to fill our classroom library. The program provided the English books so we are in need of the Spanish versions of the books needed for the program. We are working on being biliterate.

We also need a variety of books that showcase my students’ culture so that they can see themselves in the books they are reading.

I have included several books that feature Hispanic characters and role models. They feature their stories, obstacles they overcame, or just doing everyday things. It’s so important for children to see themselves in books. They are able to make connections with the characters and stories. They can also see that people that look like them have made a difference in the world.

I have also included a few portable lap desks. We have flexible seating in our classroom and a lot of my students like to work on the floor. These portable lap desks will give them a flat, smooth surface to work on. The scooters are to keep my kids moving if they decide to sit at the low table.
