My students need flexible seating at our computer stations that will allow them to focus as they work on research and learning in the library. The ability to move around a bit will help with focus.
Our school is striving diligently to get our students ready for their future in college and in their professional careers. Our elementary school library has not had much technology in the space for students use and so we have increased computers from 2 to 8. Our students need the hands on access to research databases, books, and homework help.
To make the media center more welcoming for students of all backgrounds and needs we want flexible seating.
The added benefit of flexible seating will increase the media center's ability to serve our students with various needs.
My Project
Our elementary school serves 700 students from diverse backgrounds with various needs. Students need a welcoming place that allows for flexibility and movement while they read, study, and learn in the media center. Our media center is undergoing many changes. We have increased technology. We have re-arranging already owned furniture to make it more inviting. We're also opening the media center to the school to use for collaboration.
Gaining flexible seating options in our elementary school media center will be used in many ways in our media center.
The seating can be used at our technology tables regularly. The stools can also be pulled during library instruction for students who need that accommodation. Students can use the stools around the room as they are looking for books as well.
