My Students

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go!" -Dr. Seuss

I teach kindergarten and first grade special education in a PLC room.

PLC stands for Primary Learning center, which is a classroom for students with developmental delays. I have 9 students in my classroom who range in their abilities in the areas of math, reading, and writing. It is my passion to help my students reach their goals and be successful in school. Any extra help I, as the teacher, can give them in the classroom is crucial to having them succeed not only in kindergarten and first grade, but in their entire school career. My kindergarten students will be moving up to first grade with me and the materials that are funded and brought into our classroom will stay with them next year. Albert Einstein once said “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by it’s ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” I want to empower my students and show them how smart they are. I teach in a school where 100% of students come from poverty.

My Project

My students need books to help increase their reading level. My students want to read so desperately, but they do not have the appropriate materials to do so. These books are closer to the current reading level for my students, giving them the confidence and skills to grow as readers. My students love to read and I can see that they find great joy in doing so. By receiving these books it will motivate and inspire my students to become successful independent readers. My students love to read all different genres, like these books I have chosen, giving them the motivation to complete a full story. By receiving these books, their reading levels will increase, benefiting them in their future.

By helping my classroom get these materials we will be able to increase the reading levels of my students, which will get them back on grade level.

These materials will not only advance their reading levels, but will also inspire them to read. I know with your help my students will learn to love reading!
