My students come from many different backgrounds. We are a melting pot of races, religions and family dynamics. Many of those live in poverty while others are considered upper middle class. Serving approximately seven hundred students, each day I am able to teach and guide students who are filled to the brim with wonder, excitement and the desire to learn.
My students are more than students; they are my kids.
Our library is a safe place. We work together, play together, learn together and support each other.
We are a library class on paper but so much more to each other.
Board games have many benefits other than just being enjoyable! They are proven to increase memory, decrease response time, decrease stress, develop logic and reasoning skills, and even improve the immune system. Board games will also help students acquire critical language skills and social interaction that many are missing out on.
Battleship, Memory, Scrabble, Guess Who and Checkers and other games require students to use strategy and logic as well as communicate with peers.
The games will be placed in the library where students will be encouraged to congregate, play games, and acquire new skills. With the addition of these games I would love implement a family game night to practice these skills.
