Library Modernization

My students need a library that is relevant to their lives. The Globe is important as it represents that the world in one and that the library is a place of inclusion.

My Students

My students are an accepting community that brings together 26 different languages, as many different ethnicities, 17 different religions and the spectrum of gender and sexual orientation diversity. They range in age from 10 to 18 in grades 6th to 12th.

My students are passionate about learning.

They have a wide range of interests that keep them engaged in school.

However, many of the students struggle with economic hardship that appears in their reading and writing skills, hence, our subgroups are far below the states average for academic success. This is why they need a library that is relevant to their world.

My Project

The library collection at AMES is aver 30 years old. I am hoping to modernize it this year by bringing in relevant 21st century reading materials to encourage more student use of the collection and space. The faculty and administration are working hard to fill the achievement gap and the library is an integral part of this.

We want the library and it's collection to support our students with their educational aspirations.

This grant will help achieve this goal by bringing in organizational supplies that will make the stacks more inviting. It will also bring in books that are relevant to the students in our population. Finally this grant will supply our library a much needed updated globe for student exploration and global understanding.

The supplies requested from this grant will be used immediately in our plan to update and modernize our library collection. thanks for considering our requests.
