This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a Pre-K to 5th elementary school that serves majority low socio-economically disadvantaged student population. We're also a public school in the South.
Our students are high energy and very capable learners who are ready to learn in new ways.
They enjoy kinesthetic learning, collaborative learning, and hands-on learning. Finally, our are always up for a challenge and trying new things.
We also serve a diverse population of students needs. Approximately 100 of our students qualify for special needs services and about 30 are high exceptional learners. Our special needs require more tactile learning opportunities, while our gifted learners need more rigorous activities.
My Project
These STEM Kits would help bring our Library Makerspace to life! We need Keva Planks, Magformers, and Rush Hour to incorporate thinking skills and tactile activities for our diverse learners. These kits would be a great addition to our Library Makerspace.
Our students thrive with hands on and minds on activities.
These kits would give our students ways to build and be creative during their Makerspace centers. Students will also work in groups and learn social skills while they participate in centers. Finally, these kits will be a permanent part of our Library time, since students will have to the opportunity to rotate to each center.
