My students need a Maker Space in the library so every student will have the opportunity to explore, build, experiment, and grow. These LEGO sets to create a Lego wall is a terrific place to start.
I feel that our library is the hub of our school. Children not only come to the library to check out books but they come to use technology, meet in small group settings and to participate in Virtual Field Trips where they can "travel the world".
Our student population is very diverse and we are and have been a Title I school for quite some time.
Many of our students come to school to feel safe and cared about and our attendance is often 99%.
Our school has a Community Club of fourth and fifth grade students who may be having tough times themselves, but continually work on Community Projects to give back. We have an extremely dedicated staff, a Family Resource Center, and a wonderful PTA who help us whenever possible but the needs of students get greater all the time.
I am forever trying to improve our library so it continues to be the place all students want to be.
My Project
I am one of the fortunate people who absolutely LOVES my job. I refer to the students as "my" kids. I know their stories and want to help them succeed in any way that I can. Many of our students learn in different ways.
Libraries aren't just for reading anymore.
Having a Maker Space in the library will give all of our students the chance to learn and explore in various ways. Whether it is a math or science project, or just a break for a student who needs a different setting, it will be the place everyone wants to be in our school. Every student has the opportunity to visit the library to learn and explore. By adding a LEGO wall to our library, the students can use it for creativity, math, spelling, and STEM projects. STEM has become an important part of education and our Maker Space will help our students in those areas.
I have already relocated and rearranged our bookshelves to make room for the LEGO set requested for our wall. All of the construction will be done by staff and families. Our LEGO wall will be a place where EVERY Student from 3-10 will have a wonderful opportunity to express themselves and share their accomplishments with others.
