Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have thirty-two amazing students. They love Minecraft, coding, robotics, and their iPads. They amaze me every day with their technical abilities. Greenscreening, LEGO movies or Garageband, it doesn't matter, my students are always up for a new challenge. We are surrounded by agriculture and my students want more than that.
"If you build it, they will come" (Field of Dreams).
That is what I am trying to do for my students. We are an International Baccalaureate school and an open charter school. Students are here by choice. Jobs in the future are going to require students to code. Computer programming jobs may be declining, but coding is becoming the most in-demand skill across industries. With twenty-first century tools, I promise to challenge my class everyday with the newest and coolest projects out there.
I have never met a group of children who are more accepting of the differences of others and it is truly amazing to spend my days learning with them. They come to school every day excited to learn, explore, and create the content being taught in my classroom. My classroom is about building skills to get included. The work we do in this classroom
My Project
Students need books they can relate to, books they can learn from, and books that can inspire their creativity and imaginations. For 4th grade readers, it is also important to provide them with books containing repetition, that after being read aloud together, students can have the confidence to pick them up and read them on their own. I want my classroom to be a place where students can feel confident to pick up any book and start reading.
I want my students to leave my classroom with a love of reading that will follow them wherever they go.
One of my main goals this year as a teacher is to help my students love to read of their own accord. Students will start taking home a book everynight and on the weekends is a sight that makes my heart swell. In order for this to happen, my classroom library needs a little MakeOver.
I strive every day to help every student understand that they are worth the time and effort it takes to master new skills and that learning can be fun when reading!
