This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
What do you remember about middle school? What will you help 76 brilliant and hard working scholars remember?
We are the College Preparatory Learning Community of Readers, Writers, Listeners, and Speakers.
We are the class of 2019 (the year we will graduate from college). We are at a high poverty middle school in NY, and we are looking for some library furniture from a donor like you!
My Project
As a third year teacher in a young school, I quickly discovered that students are brilliant, yet many of my scholars are reading below grade level. The average reading level in my 8th grade classroom is a 6th grade level, and I have scholars reading as low as a 4th grade level. Book selections have been limited in the past due to lack of resources, but thanks to donors like you I am beginning to build a high interest classroom library. Now we need a bookshelf to house our new materials, and some cushy beanbags that we can stretch out and read in.
My scholars work so hard and are on track to make 2 years of reading growth this year!
We need this furniture in order to continue to take the steps to reach our goals. These materials will give my scholars an opportunity to not only achieve their goals, but develop a lifelong passion for reading.
