We have 200-300 students per week who use the library media center after school. They work on homework, group projects, club projects, use library resources, and wait for parents to pick them up. Students in our after school program work really hard academically all day and need to unwind a bit at the end of the day or before they begin their homework. In addition to doing school or club work during this time, they also pursue individual interests and socialize with peers. We want to provide more board games to promote that socialization and help them have fun!
My Project
Our students work very hard during their academic day! The library media center provides print books and eBooks for our students to read for pleasure, but we also need board games to provide other outlets for stress relief.
Socialize face-to-face, not through social media!
We encourage students in our after-school library media time to play board games when they need an academic break instead of playing on their smartphones or using social media. This encourages face-to-face social skills and students make new friends.
We have a few board games already, but we need more! A few that we are requesting are Risk, Battleship, Jenga, HedBanz, etc. Students who work hard deserve to play hard!
