Our students are amazing for many reasons, but one of the reasons we love and appreciate them is because of their kind hearts. Most elementary schools service students from kindergarten to fourth grade. However, our school is unique and goes from preschool to eighth grade.
This mix of ages creates an exceptional atmosphere!
For example, in the morning before school begins our students congregate in the gym. One might think children would stick with children their own ages. However, if you came to our school you may see a preschool sitting on the lap of an eighth grader. Or you might see a fifth grader and first grader playing with building blocks. Or you might see a first grader coloring with a seventh grader. Our students are very conscious of each other's feelings and strive to include others no matter the age.
Our school is a small charter school in rural Minnesota that services 79 children from preschool to eighth grade. This upcoming 2019-2020 school year we will be celebrating our 20th anniversary. In honor of this celebration we are looking to make some upgrades, one of which is add some new furniture to our library. We currently have eight wood chairs and two tables that sway with the slightest breeze. We would love to add a flex-space lounge and learn ottoman and flex-space lounge and learn couch.
Our students have the opportunity to go to library once a week and check out books.
They have about 30 minutes to wonder the shelves and pick a new book to enjoy. However, many of them take about 10 minutes to pick a book and then spend the other 20 minutes reading. The new couch and ottoman would offer students a comfy space for them to read.
