Our students are innovative, thoughtful, and enthusiastic about all their learning opportunities. Our library is transitioning into a Library Commons model; and as new tools are being introduced students are excited to have new academic choices. I come to work everyday astonished and excited to witness their curiosity and willingness to jump in, work together, and manipulate all new educational materials. I am thrilled to watch our students become more confident and show more courage as they explore new ways to learn.
My Project
Independence and choice are two words that come to mind when thinking about seating options. Flexible seating allows students to be an active participant in their learning. Allowing students to make this small choice, gives them power over their educational experience. We want our students to continue to be mindful of who they are as learners. When I started college, I did not know how to be an active participant in my education. I knew I needed to learn the information; but honestly, I did not understand how to learn. It took me through my first year of college to know I needed to take notes and highlight text in order to learn information. Seating decisions are just one more opportunity for students to understand how they learn. Our world is full of choice; why shouldn't our classrooms be the same?
