This is my first year at my school and I have discovered the students have a passion for learning. I learned very quickly they have not been introduced to some of the incredible current literature that is available. It is my desire to bring these new titles to the classroom where they can have constant access to them. They have already devoured many of the books I was able to bring with me and now I would like to add novels to the classroom library to give the students an opportunity to experience these new adventures.
Cicero wrote, "A room without books is like a body without a soul." Help me bring soul to their classroom.
I have been teaching 6th grade for over 20 years and have witnessed the power of a well stocked classroom library. It is my desire to stock their classroom library with as many new novels that the students will be able to relate to and enjoy. Studies show that students with a well stocked, updated classroom library read 50%-60% more than their peers who do not have that same access.
My Project
The titles listed will be combined with 21 other titles we purchased with Scholastic points(free) to offer the students a wide variety of book choices from multiple genres. We have requested 3 of each title to give multiple students the opportunity to read the books at the same time. We feel this gives them a chance to form reading communities and share their thoughts as they read the same titles.
You can't buy happiness, but you can buy books and that is kind of the same thing!!

Students are hungry for new titles and eagerly await for me to share the times I go to the bookstore and bring in that book I know they just need to read. The new books these students are introduced to, do not spend much time on the shelf because students are quick to check them out as they are returned.
