Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students represent a wide and diverse population of socio-economic backgrounds and ethnicities. Our total population of over 2000 students display a wide range of interests and course selection, with a majority selecting coursework that will prepare them for their next educational step, albeit a four year university, junior college, trade school, the military, or on the job training.
With this in mind, the creation of an Innovation Lab, implementing the Essential Eight Technologies with the tools, problem-based learning, and critical thinking skills required to ALL students, will be an opportunity that has not existed on campus previously and will better prepare our students for career readiness and the next steps in their educational or vocational journey.
It is my goal, that with this project, the students will develop, plan, and create a functioning Innovation Lab, using the skills and knowledge they have learned throughout the year to provide a new resource for the successive years' of students.
My Project
Having access for all student to technologies such as virtual reality and 3D printing will open the doors for so many opportunities across all content areas and curriculum programs. With these tools available for all teachers on campus to schedule time and allow students to take virtual field trips, learning through experience and observation will be available to everyone.
Many of our students do not have the opportunity to visit museums, galleries, or aquariums, experience and observe real world locations, or even travel much outside of the valley.
Google Expedition will provide these opportunities to all of our students, removing the disparity and the digital divide that exists throughout our locale.
A value add of this project is the ability to adjust to provide opportunities for remote and distance learning for students. The Google VR expeditions can be used by the teacher to create virtual field trips now accessible to the students from home, in a simulated VR environment using streaming and recorded walk-throughs. The 3Doodle pens will provide opportunities for students to design and print in three dimensions from their home as these units are portable and will have the availability to be "checked out" on a class basis for projects across all curriculums.
