Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with an incredibly diverse community of 2nd grade learners in a school that supports individual learning and choice. Our school encourages students to learn by doing and engages them in their learning by fostering their individual interests to make learning meaningful. My students love to learn and explore the world around them.
I want my students to have access to reading materials that are at their individual instructional and independent reading levels, but also pique their interests.
In creating a classroom culture where they feel safe, welcome and valued, they will become the true citizens of the world.
My Project
I'm asking for leveled reading books that span across the reading abilities for students in my classroom. The fiction and nonfiction texts will provide them with many entry points to find books that interest them and expose them to different genres.
Leveled readers will allow my students to feel successful in their own reading while still challenging them to move towards higher reading skills and vocabulary.
This will ensure a fair and equitable access to books for all my students and since they will have the ability to choose books that interest them, it will also ensure that they are engaging in their own growth as readers!
