This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are passionate and energetic learners. They work hard to learn new things and take pride in their achievements. 100% of students at our school qualify for free lunch. Most of them come from low-income households with parents who struggle to cover basic expenses. Unfortunately, many of my students have little or no access to books at home; which limits their exposure to reading.
Despite the challenges, my students come to school every day eager to learn and ready to discover new topics.
My goal is to get my students interested in and excited about literacy. I need books that appeal to their interests and are on their reading levels. I hope by encouraging and motivating them to read it will help to build their confidence, independence, and overall reading performance.
My Project
My students have a wide range of reading levels and interests. To help improve their reading skills I want to make sure they have access to a wide variety of books. Unfortunately, I have a limited amount of leveled books in my classroom; which makes it difficult for my students to read independently.
I believe that the more time children spend reading books, the better readers they become.
The books purchased will give my students the opportunity to read based on their reading level. They will help build their fluency, reading, and comprehension skills. With your support, our students will have a variety of books to choose from to meet their needs as they grow as readers.
