I teach 4th grade to 33 students in a low-income area in San Francisco. The great part is these students are motivated to learn. They love coming to school and want to learn new things each day. One area half of my class is struggling with is reading at grade level. Many of my students are struggling to decode words. When they struggle with so many words, students lose the meaning of the text. Having leveled reading books from a renowned company like Leapfrog will help my students tremendously. As they improve they will be closer to reading at the 4th grade level. Hopefully with continued practice, my struggling readers will one day read fluently without struggling over every 5th word. Please help low-income students become fluent readers. Your help will benefit many students' lives.
