This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students live in the Edgewood, Kirkwood, and East Lake communities in Atlanta. This neighborhood is changing quickly. Our school serves students in pre-k through the fifth grade. Many of our students' families struggle financially, but our families are very involved and know most teachers and other students by name.
I love my school.
Our staff is a family; our students are bright, inquisitive, and deserve every opportunity to learn and grow. Thanks for stopping at my page, and I hope you will help.
My Project
Over the summer, I want to a training for Orton-Gillingham. Orton-Gillingham is a multi-sensory approach to teaching students all aspects of reading. One of the products I saw this summer that really excited me for my students were the Orton-Gillingham Alphabet Readers. Leveled readers help me as a teacher, because they promote differentiation for each of my students. These readers would allow me to do this in an even more effective way, because the readers focus on the specific sounds that students are learning each week. This will allow the students to read books that will reinforce the learning of each sound as we work to recognize them.
