Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My classroom is in need of a leveled LeapPad library to go with our six classroom LeapPads. The decodable library is an essential learning tool during workshop time. As a first grade teacher, I would like to bring materials to the classroom that will create a fun and exciting interactive learning environment. I am a new teacher in a very low-income community. I teach 20 first graders in Compton, California. I really believe that these interactive tools will be an asset to my classroom. I will have my students use the LeapPads during centers. My students will rotate each day, and all have an opportunity to use them. I have many low readers and this could be an opportunity to catch them up to grade-level. Also, I can challenge my brighter students with a more difficult activity book and support my lower students with a less challenging activity book. I want to induce the love of learning and to inspire my students to read more fluently. If my classroom is equipped with these materials, my students will have a better opportunity for success when they finish school and enter the real world. First grade is a critical year, as they are just learning how to read. I want to make a difference in their lives in order for them to be as successful as they can be.
