Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

The students in my classroom have a drive and desire for learning. Most of the children in my community come from diverse economic and social backgrounds in an area that faces many challenges including generational poverty. They come to school eager to learn and cultivate a legacy of learning. The students are energetic, loving and many days exhausted. With all this in mind, these boys and girls come to school to put their best foot forward every day.

My goal as an educator is to help these children see that their future can expand beyond the limitations of their front door.

They are able to look forward and work toward the educational goals they create for themselves. These students are so young, and they have such a big world out there to discover and explore. Seeing them grow and create their own image makes being an educator worthwhile.

My Project

Having a leveled reading library like this will help my students become lifelong readers! The goal with these resources is to allow students a variety of books to choose from when they come to read with me during their conference times. When they choose books, they will be selecting a title based on not just their interest, but their reading level.

When students have books in their hands, we are encouraging the the minds of our future.

I am so excited to see what we could potentially come from the use of these books and stories. Thank you all so much for any generosity and support!
