My Students

I have the privilege of spending each day with an amazing group of second graders! They are excited to learn and explore through reading. There is a wide range of reading ability in our classroom and I want to provide engaging books at all reading levels so the children can improve their reading skills and experience success.

My students want to be the best readers they can be.

We read daily in many different ways. We read independently, in small groups, with partners, with adults, and whole class. I need more books, especially nonfiction books, so my students can continue to explore the world through reading.

My Project

In order to improve in their reading, students need lots of practice with lots of different books at their independent reading levels. Having leveled books in my classroom will give them the opportunity to spend more time reading without being frustrated. By reading books at their independent reading levels, students will advance in their reading strategies and skills.

Building a leveled classroom library is essential for students to learn to read and comprehend what they are reading.

During independent reading time, my students read books at their individual reading levels with success, and then show their comprehension using the Accelerated Reader program.

Recently I started a leveled nonfiction library in my classroom. I currently have five new books at each of the sixteen reading levels. The leveled books that I am requesting will increase the number of books that I have at each reading level.

Having more books at each reading level will offer my students more choice in which books they read. It will allow my students to improve their reading skills and learn about real people and real life. My students have many questions about the world. They enjoy exploring their interests by reading books and looking at pictures. Having additional books will put more books in their hands that explore their interests and that are written at their own levels. By independently reading these books, my students will gain confidence, improve their vocabulary, and improve their reading ability.

Having lots of leveled books is essential in a classroom so students can choose to read the books that they are interested in at the appropriate level for each child.

This project will help my students become successful and lifelong readers!
