This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We serve a diverse group of kindergarten students that live in a low-income community where making ends meet is a daily struggle.

Over 75 percent of the students at our Title I school receive free lunch.

My students are learning from home and will continue distance learning. for the foreseeable future. These courageous students have continued to persevere in the face of this pandemic even though many of them have minimal technology to help them stay connected.

My Project

Access to leveled books is crucial to emerging kindergarten readers. During this time of distance learning, my students do not have access to leveled books. I would love to give my kindergarten students their own set of leveled readers to use during our online whole and small group instructional time. With the help of these leveled readers, I will able to teach/reinforce blending skills as well as teach fluency and comprehension. My students will also be able to use these little readers to practice reading on their own. Providing these leveled books to my students will help them gain the necessary skills needed to become readers!
