My classroom is a place of learning and fun! My second grade classroom has 21 enthusiastic students, each with their own unique talents and abilities. Our classroom is a melting pot of different backgrounds and life experiences.
Every student that comes through my door is unique in their own way, and together we are a community of learners that work with one another and learn from one another.
Second grade is all about learning with your friends and encouraging others to succeed!
My Project
My second grade students have a range of reading skills spanning from kindergarten reading levels to late third grade. To assure that my students continue to improve their literacy skills it is critical to give them access to leveled books that span the range of readers in my class. I want to make sure that my students are reading books that are at both their instructional level and their independent level. Having them practice their reading and comprehension strategies in books that are too easy or too difficult will not help them grow as readers. For this reason, I would like to have sets of leveled books that my students can choose from that match where I am instructing them during their guided reading group.
My current classroom library offers a small range of books sorted only by genre.
By offering a leveled section in my classroom library, I believe my students will have better access to "just right" books. In return, this will build their confidence as readers, as well as help them continue to build their fluency, reading strategy use, and comprehension skills.
