Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My passion for teaching sparkled while working as an aide in a Special Education classroom. Ever since, my goal was to become a special education teacher. Now I teach in a bilingual title 1 school in an RSP (Resource Specialist Program) classroom. I teach students who have learning differences, who are English learners, children who are homeless, children who live below poverty, and much more. Despite all the struggles they have faced, my students are hardworking, diligent, curious, kind, enthusiastic, honest, and creative.
With all of this in mind, as I prepare my students for the demands of the increasingly complex life and work environments of the 21st Century, it is my responsibility to create an environment where my students are engaged and successful in their learning.
By providing my students with a safe environment they will thrive in their learning, making it easier for them to accept their differences as they continue to practice a growth mindset.
I am blessed to be teaching these wonderful and loving children who give me the opportunity to make a difference in their education and their lives.
My Project
All my students read below grade level. Some students are still working on sight words while some of them are beginning to read chapter books. My classroom is full of energetic, curious, and enthusiastic young readers who will benefit from having books at their own level and that they are comfortable reading.
Additionally, providing books to the students’ own reading levels will help them boost their self-confidence, expand their vocabulary, improve their writing skills, practice their analytical thinking skills, and much more as they stretch beyond their reading levels without overwhelming them.
I am so thrilled to add new books to our library for my RSP students to help them become more successful readers.
