Our Title I school serves many military families. We are a very transient school with families frequently moving in and out of the state and country. Our students often have one parent deployed or away working with the military.
My kindergartners are excited about class and have an innate need to learn all that they can absorb.
They come to school every day with excitement in their eyes, wondering what amazing things they will learn that day. Kindergarten teaches the foundations and gives the students opportunities to grow and become amazing adults. This is a very important year for all students.
My Project
As kindergarteners grow, so do their reading skills. Many kindergartners come into school not knowing many letters or sounds. By the end of the year, they are reading books on a first grade level. A huge growth is seen in students' first year of school.
We need harder books!
When this project is completed, we will get 15 new sets of Level K books for our guided reading groups. In these groups we learn strategies for reading more accurately and fluently, and become better at comprehending what we read. Motivation, a teacher's push, and new books, is all they need to do well.
