Our school is full of diverse students from our local community. We are a middle school with over 800 students with many different backgrounds and opportunities. Our school is considered a Title I school where many of the students receive free and reduced lunch.
This project will allow our middle school students to have even more opportunities to grow in critical thinking skills along with social-emotional skills through board games.
Being the librarian, I have the privilege of getting to work with all the students and staff in the building. I open the library in the morning for students to have another space to go to complete homework, read, find books, converse, and so much more.
Growing up, board games and puzzles were a staple in my home.
Providing access to games and puzzles in the library creates a space for students to learn, communicate, and grow.
The materials for Level Up in the Library will be available for students to use before school and throughout the day. Our students have access to devices, but need the opportunities to have time to work together in a setting that allows for easy fails and wins that board games and puzzles can provide.
Bringing board games, card games, and puzzles into the library will give students the opportunity to try new things and work together.
