My students need graphing calculators to statistically analyze their data collected in AP Biology. Most of my students cannot afford these for themselves. These would allow for more students to be able to independently contribute.

My Students
My students are very energetic junior and senior students who thrive on hands-on activities and the opportunities to lead their own investigations. They are highly motivated are college bound. There is a mixture of students from various socioeconomic backgrounds, race, and ability levels. This year I have 25 AP Biology students. Each year there are about this many students that take AP Biology. Our school is a public school that serves our city community, but also the rural surrounding areas.
My Project
In AP Biology, being able to statistically analyze data, make data tables, and charts is incredibly important. Allowing my students to complete this work on excel or a graphing calculator will make them much more versatile than just utilizing one format. Also, using the statistics functions allowable in the graphing calculator will not only increase my students' ability to calculate and understand statistical data but will also allow them to become more tech-savvy with their calculator and will ultimately increase their ACT scores. Most of my students cannot afford graphing calculators and this would allow ALL students access. These calculators will be used in a variety of labs that cover cells, transport, photosynthesis, respiration, genetics, evolution. Also, we will use them to calculate parameters of central tendencies, chi-squared tests, Pearson's correlation tests, box and whisker plots, regression lines, and so much more!
