My Students
I work with students that have the desire to learn to read and write, but they need a more individualized or small group setting to help them attain this desire. When they first come to my room, they are excited but feel they aren't able to read. They are very hesitant to attempt to read or write.
As we work together they become more confident and will even say "I can read that book all by myself" when I suggest I will share read a newer, more challenging book with them.
My Project
My students need more time and a variety of ways to work with letters and words to help them gain some of the foundational skills in developing their literacy skills.
These magnetic letters and words will help my students have hands-on literacy learning.
The large magnetic letters will be used to help our youngest learners gain knowledge of letters. They will have the opportunity to match the lower case letters to the upper case letters. The older students will work with the word parts to make words. Then the magnetic words will students recognize words through touch, sight, and hearing.
Using these materials will help motivate these struggling literacy learners. The hands-on use of these materials will help build their confidence in reading, writing and word knowledge.
