This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The young scholars in my class live on the east side of Indianapolis in rough neighborhoods. Despite their struggles, my scholars have a strong desire to learn in an environment that is a safe place, least restrictive, and full of things to keep them busy. The scholars in my class love creating masterpieces and showing how hard they worked to learn something. I love that they are fearless in initiating any task that is thrown their way. Our school sets high expectations within language arts and mathematics; however, many of my scholars come to kindergarten without any prior introduction to the alphabet or numbers.
My Project
The materials that I am requesting for my scholars will make a huge impact in sparking interest in growing great readers and writers. All of the materials will play a huge part in our Daily 5 reading centers where students work on word work, letter and sound recognition, and learn to read or explore books independently.
Students have optimal results when they have the opportunity to see, touch, and hear.
The unlock key letters, stamps, and folder puzzles will impact my students greatly by being able to manipulate, explore, and create words and recognize letters. The Wikki Stix and alphabet beads will help promote fine motor skills while they are learning their letters or building sight words. The materials that I am requesting also play a huge role in differentiation for all students learning needs. Without a doubt, I know that these learning materials will help increase each students' learning target.
